LPS IgM
Lab Results Explained and Tracked
What does it mean if your LPS IgM result is too high?
Elevated levels of Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) indicate increased intestinal permeability, commonly known as "leaky gut." LPS is a component of the outer membrane of gram-negative bacteria and is a potent bacterial endotoxin.
When LPS levels are high in the bloodstream, it suggests that the endotoxin is passing not only between intestinal cells but also directly through them, which can lead to neuroinflammation and potential brain injury. Once absorbed into the bloodstream, LPS can trigger a strong immune response.
Elevated LPS levels may be linked to bacterial infections, food sensitivities, chronic inflammation, autoimmune diseases, digestive disorders, and neurological conditions.

What does it mean if your LPS IgM result is too low?
Low LPS Antibodies are associated with an immune system that is chronically worn down. IBS and IBD can both be a result of an infection that was chronic and that has resulted in little to no immune reserve. Immunoglobulins are an excellent intervention. Adequate Vitamin A and D as well as adequate protein can also help to increase levels. Assume there is a long-term infection that has decreased levels and consider antimicrobials such as Berberine and Garlic as well.
A low immune reaction to LPS antibodies has significant clinical implications. Since some level of LPS is always present, a healthy immune system should generate a detectable response. When a patient exhibits a low immune response to LPS IgG, LPS IgA, and LPS IgM, it suggests that their immune system is underperforming.
This inadequate response allows bacterial levels in the gut to remain elevated, as immunoglobulin levels are too low to effectively combat infections. As a result, patients may experience ongoing gut pain and flare-ups, with persistent irritation due to the higher bacterial load.
Low LPS antibody levels are commonly associated with conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Crohn's disease, and colitis.
