What is Anti-Ri Ab?
Anti-Ri antibodies are a type of paraneoplastic antibody, which means they are produced by the immune system in response to abnormal growths like cancer. However, instead of only attacking cancer cells, these antibodies can mistakenly target the nervous system, leading to neurological symptoms.
These antibodies are most commonly associated with paraneoplastic neurological syndromes (PNS)—a group of rare but serious disorders that affect the brain, spinal cord, and nerves. Anti-Ri is particularly linked to breast cancer and small cell lung cancer.
Why Was This Test Ordered?
Your doctor may order the Anti-Ri Ab test if you are experiencing unexplained neurological symptoms, such as:
