17-OH Progesterone is the product of progesterone hydroxylation.
There is very little research pertaining to low levels of this metabolite, making its clinical significance unknown. Low levels of the precursor hormones pregnenolone, 17-hydroxypregnenolone, and progesterone can contribute to decreased levels.

17-OH Progesterone is the product of progesterone hydroxylation. Elevations are associated with idiopathic hirsutism, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, 11-beta-hydroxylase deficiency, adult onset viralizing adrenal hyperplasia, and in men with cytochrome P450c17 deficiency. Additionally, hyperinsulinemia and hyperglycemia (metabolic syndrome) push 17-hydroxylation of progesterone.
