Galleri by GRAIL is a multi-cancer early detection (MCED) blood test designed to screen for dozens of serious cancers, including many that currently have no standard screening options. By analyzing fragments of DNA released into the bloodstream by tumors, the test can identify a potential cancer “signal” before symptoms appear or before cancer is detected through traditional imaging or screening methods.

As cancers develop, they shed tumor-derived DNA into the blood. Galleri uses advanced genomic and machine-learning technology to detect these fragments and determine whether a cancer signal is present. If a signal is found, the test can also predict the likely tissue or organ of origin—called the Cancer Signal Origin (CSO)—to help guide follow-up diagnostic testing and clinical evaluation.

In adults ages 50 to 79, approximately 1 percent of people tested are expected to receive a “Cancer Signal Detected” result. Among those with a positive result, about 40 percent are ultimately diagnosed with cancer after further diagnostic work-up. In clinical studies, Galleri correctly predicted the cancer’s tissue of origin in about 88 percent of cases where cancer was confirmed, helping clinicians focus next-step imaging and diagnostic procedures.

The Galleri test has been evaluated in clinical research involving more than 20,000 participants. Testing is performed in laboratories that meet recognized quality standards, including ISO 15189 certification, CLIA compliance, and accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP).

Possible test results

You will typically receive results within about two weeks. There are two possible outcomes:

No Cancer Signal Detected
No cancer-associated DNA signal was found in the sample. For nearly 99 percent of people tested, this is the result.

Cancer Signal Detected
A cancer-associated DNA signal was identified. The report will also include a predicted Cancer Signal Origin (CSO), indicating the most likely tissue or organ involved. This information helps guide follow-up evaluation and diagnostic testing with your healthcare provider.
